A virtual workshop on integrating environmental justice perspectives into our academic research at Princeton University. 

The workshop is open to Princeton students, researchers, and faculty working on environmental, energy, and climate topics. Please RSVP here, and Zoom links will be sent to you once your registration is confirmed.


10:00-11:15am ET: Plenary session (Open to all participants) featuring a panel discussion with our speakers:

  • Pradip Swarnakar, Associate Professor, Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kanpur
  • Christian Braneon, Remote Sensing Specialist, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies; and Chief Technology Officer, Hummingbird Firm
  • Paulina Jaramillo, Professor, Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon
  • Joshua Apte, Assistant Professor, Environmental Engineering and Public Health, UC Berkeley

11:20am-12:15pm ET: Thematic breakout rooms to facilitate more in-depth discussion between panelists and researchers thinking about how to integrate EJ perspectives in their current energy/environmental research. (Targeted for doctoral students, postdocs, and faculty)

The rooms will focus on the following research areas:

  • Coastal Resilience
  • Air Pollution
  • Climate Governance

12:15-12:30pm ET: Group recap and closing remarks

This workshop is being organized by students in the Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (STEP) PhD Program at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, postdocs and staff at the Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment (C-PREE), and colleagues at the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment. The program is also co-sponsored by the High Meadows Environmental Institute and the Office of Sustainability.
