Jack McCaslin is a second year MPA candidate at SPIA. He is interested in how the United States can support and lead climate change mitigation and adaptation around the world, and how climate change impacts U.S. national security. In Summer 2021, Jack served as a Rosenthal Fellow in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy, where he supported efforts to integrate climate change into Department of Defense policy. Prior to SPIA, Jack worked at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, DC, researching U.S. foreign policy toward Africa, with a focus on Nigerian politics. There, he was introduced to the environmental and climate drivers of conflict and instability. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jack grew up in Ohio, Germany, Russia, and Poland before receiving a BA from Colgate University in international relations with a minor in Russian studies.
